The BEA was a very strong league this season with an average rating of 1050 with one player rated over 1600. The team fought hard to avoid relegation the average rating of the team was 880 which meant it was always going to be an uphill battle. Additionally, the loss of the team’s strongest player, Tom O’Neill, to the club’s Heidenfeld and Armstrong teams made the task even more difficult.
The highlight of the team’s season came from its two youngest members of the team – Luke and Finn. They gained valuable experience throughout the season – Luke’s best result came on the last day of the season with an impressive draw against Lorcan Ryan who was rated nearly 200 points above him. Undeterred by a tough start, Finn battled on and his results showed. Taking a very impressive 3.5 points from the last 4 rounds and playing the last round on board 2(up from board 5 at the start of the season)! Well done Luke and Finn.
Sadly, despite their best efforts the team was relegated. With his usual enthusiasm team captain, Liam Farrell took the best from the season and is looking forward to next September – “We will take quite a bit from our efforts this season, learn from our mistakes and I have absolutely no doubt that we will be battling for promotion back to Division 5 next season.”
Captain’s Hard Work
Finally, much praise must be given to the team’s captain Liam Farrell. His dedication and hard work is much appreciated by everyone at the club. Organising the team’s fixtures, re-scheduling matches, finding subs and keeping the team motivated are difficult tasks which Liam took on and excelled at. Thanks for all your hard work Liam.
